The health of the aquatic ecosystems right now is not so great. Oceanographer Sylvia Earle has been tring to save our oceans for over 50 years. In the video it explains that a third of coral reefs are becoming exstincted. Oceans are also getting warmer due to global warming and the climate. Many scientists estimate that we've lost at least 90% of large predatory fish like sharks and swordfish. And sence we have lost them, there are probably more prey, which is not good for the predator-prey relationship.
I understand that ecosystems are changing because of humans. When we were doing our projects, we learned the human impact on each biome. But I have never really thought about what we did to the ocean. I think that people do care what happens to the ocean, but dont really do anything to change the fact that our oceans are changing a lot because of us. I think that a lot more people have tried to help the ocean ever sence the oil spill happend. Also their is predation between us and fish in the sea.
A personal connection i have made to these ecosystems is this summer i got a chance to go snorkeling down in the grand cayman islands. I enjoyed it very much, we snorkeled around where a coral reef was. I thought that it was very cool. I would not want all of the coral reefs to eventually go exstinked because its very interesting to see.
